The exciting All New Yaris has been named the European Car of the Year for 2021. This prestigious award is selected by a jury of almost 60 automotive journalists from all across Europe. As the latest generation, the iconic Yaris has joined a select group of vehicles that have been awarded this title more than once. The award was first received in 2000 – the year the innovative Toyota Yaris was launched – and was also a first for the Toyota brand.
Since the Car of the Year 2000 award, the Yaris has been recognised by the Car of the Year jury multiple times, with every generation making the shortlist. As the fourth generation Yaris continues to deliver as one of the brands most iconic models, the European Car of the Year title has been awarded to the All New Toyota Yaris for the second time, 21 years later.
Praising the model’s hybrid technology, smooth ride, low emissions and affordability, the jury highlighted the reason more than 80% of Yaris buyers choose the hybrid powertrain. The All New Yaris also gained appreciation for the design, dynamic performance, and class-leading safety. What’s more, the European Car of the Year jury also mentioned the All New Toyota GR Yaris and praised how its launch was success in re-igniting passion for the hot hatch market across Europe.
Furthermore, this exciting title came a few days after the All New Yaris was named the best-selling car in Europe for the first time. Plus, with such remarkable design, performance and technology its no wonder Toyota’s European customers agree with the European Car of the Year jury.
“This is a great honour for Toyota and I’d like to thank the jury for their consideration and recognition. I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise the passion of our development teams in Europe and Japan. This is the best-ever Yaris, and just as Akio Toyoda intended, it is already putting a smile on the face of our customers.”
Matt Harrison, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Europe
The 2021 award joins the brand’s Prius Car of the Year 2005 title and the first generation Yaris Car of the Year 2000 award, bringing the Toyota Car of the Year award total to three. With such an exciting award, Toyota is looking forward to providing further award-winning technology as the industry takes its steps into an electrified future.
